3 Ways to Turn Standardized Test Scores into True Reflections of Learning

In a year when data from the National Assessment for Educational Progress revealed that U.S. students’ performance on standardized tests had reached historic lows, Century Community Charter School in Inglewood achieved an upward trajectory on California’s standardized tests. Over the course of several years, the school has worked to identify and close foundational skill gaps early, partner with a platform that helps students strengthen their strategic thinking skills through everyday practice, and sharpen students’ ability to think critically and strategically under pressure. The number of Century students meeting or exceeding math goals increased from 20% in 2023 to 29% in 2025, and in English language arts from 39% to 50% over the same period.
